Mumbai won the 42nd Ranji Trophy, setting a new record, by defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs

On the last day of the 2024 season, Mumbai defeated Vidarbha by 169 runs to win the 42nd Ranji Trophy, setting a new record. Vidarbha put up a heroic fight to chase a formidable 538 runs, with captain Akshay Wadkar striking a century, but Mumbai’s spinners saw to it that Vidarbha was bowled out for 368.

Eight years have passed since Mumbai’s triumphant season under Aditya Tare in the 2015–16 campaign. However, in their third Ranji final, Vidarbha suffered their first-ever loss in a match against top teams.

You’re a prick. Mumbai’s key player was Musheer Khan, who amassed a fantastic second-inning century of 136 runs from 326 balls. Shreyas Iyer also contributed, scoring 95 runs, which laid the foundation for Mumbai’s second-inning total of 418 runs and helped the team set a massive goal of 538 runs for Vidarbha.

However, Vidarbha did not surrender easily. After Karun Nair scored 74, Mumbai began to feel the heat from captain Akshay Wadkhar’s (102) and Harsh Dubey’s (65) blows, but spinner Tanush Kotian’s scamp of Wadkar clinched the deal for Mumbai.

Kotian took seven wickets in the match as he concluded the tournament. Shardul made a significant contribution with the bat in Mumbai’s first inning, scoring 75 runs off of 69 balls. In the second innings, Musheer curled his arms over to take the vital wickets of Nair and Aman Mokhade, the Nos. 3 and 4 of Vidarbha.
