Not Samson Sanju! A 22-year-old Rajasthan Royals player is on the BCCI selectors’ radar for the 2024 T20 World Cup

One of the favorites to win the T20 World Cup is the India squad captained by Rohit Sharma. June 2 is the start of the competition, and on June 5 India’s first matchup is versus Ireland.

On June 9, the Men in Blue will play Pakistan; on June 12, the USA; and on June 15, Canada. India should make it to the Super 8s unless there is a major shock. The difficult challenge of selecting a formidable team for the gala event would fall to the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.

The place of Virat Kohli on India’s cricket team was a topic of much discussion. Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar, and coach Rahul Dravid met last week to talk about India’s T20 World Cup roster. Among the topics they discussed was Kohli’s position on the team, according to a report in Dainik Jagran. It is said that the stakeholders have communicated to Kohli their position about the T20 World Cup.

According to the article, senior BCCI executives oppose benching Kohli and causing needless controversy in the run-up to the elections. Kohli’s IPL 2024 performance has also increased the likelihood that he would be selected for the prestigious competition.

At now, Kohli is the owner of the Orange Cap, having amassed 361 runs, including two hundreds and fifty. If chosen, Kohli is expected to open for India in the T20 World Cup since he has experience playing as an opener in the IPL. In other words, only one of Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal would be chosen to attend the ICC tournament, with Gill having a better chance of being chosen.

The report said that if Hardik Pandya is not bowling well, it would be tough for him to get into the Indian team. Pandya has struggled in the IPL 2024, and if he doesn’t make a big jump in performance in the next games, it will be difficult for him to make the team. Selectors are also keeping an eye on Shivam Dube after his incredible IPL 2024 performance for CSK, where he has already amassed 242 runs in six innings.
Riyan Parag, the batter for the Rajasthan Royals, is another young player who has drawn the attention of selectors.

This season, the 22-year-old has shown tremendous promise. When given the chance to bat at number four, Parag has performed at his best this season, amassing 318 runs in 7 games, including three fifty-score innings.

He has an excellent chance of participating in his first T20 World Cup if he can maintain this form.
The announcement of the India team is scheduled for later this month.
