Possibly handled more skillfully with good communication: On the Hardik Pandya captaincy dispute, Ravi Shastri

Had the Mumbai Indians shown “clarity in communication” while introducing Hardik Pandya as captain, according to former India coach Ravi Shastri, the wrath from fans may have been averted.

Shastri also counseled Pandya to maintain composure and deliver strong performances to withstand the storm.

“The Indian cricket squad that is competing is not this one. This is cricket as a franchise. They made a high-end payment. They have the authority. They have the right to choose anyone they want as captain. Alright, I believe that this might have been handled more skillfully if there had been more communication,” Shastri remarked on Star Sports’ “Cricket Live Show.”

Say we are looking to the future if that is what you wanted Hardik Pandya to be the captain. Our goal is to construct. Everyone is aware of Rohit’s amazing work, and as the team develops over the next three years, we hope he can continue to support Hardik.

For all of this to stop, there should have been a bit more clarity and communication. Thus, it’s not as if you’re saying, “No, we don’t want Rohit Sharma,” or “He was treated badly,” or anything similar in response to everything that’s making the rounds on social media, he said.

Shastri anticipates that if the Mumbai Indians begin to win, things will change. The group has already lost three straight games.

Thus, I would tell Hardik to stay composed, patient, disregard everything else, and concentrate only on his game. Start out with a few performances. The Mumbai Indians are a fantastic team. He predicted that everything will slow down if they start winning three or four games in a row.

Nothing is more satisfying than results in the end. When you win games, things will get better. Additionally, there’s a ton of bullshit out there. You know, and some of the tales are just fabrications. He said, “A lot of stuff is merely planted on other people’s names, including mine.

Matthew Hayden, a former batter for Australia, said that Rohit’s admiration from the public makes sense considering his eleven years as MI captain.

“You see, the people who care about Rohit Sharma the most are his fans. They may not always understand politics or insights, but they still want to understand this.” That is something that cannot be avoided.

Making sure Rohit is on board with it is maybe how it should have been done a little bit better, he added.

According to Hayden, evaluating Pandya on the basis of only three games is unfair.

“There are some questions regarding Hardik’s leadership, but I believe it is incredibly unfair to judge one of the greatest players in Indian history at the beginning of the season—which is notoriously slow for the Mumbai Indians—and to assume that he will remain so for a very long time, subject to his own fitness, which is always debatable given that he is an all-arounder.

“However, it’s incredibly unjust to miscalculate his past performances as well as the team’s, and then conjecture about what might or might not be going on inside that changing room, which we don’t know,” he said.

The next game MI plays in the Wankhede Stadium is on April 7 against the Delhi Capitals.
