IPL2024: RCB’s Faf du Plessis and PBKS’ Sam Curran face sanctions for breaking the code of conduct

Following Sunday’s (April 21) games in the lucrative 2024 season of the league, the Indian Premier League (IPL) took a hard hit on the losing leaders of Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). As if the defeat alone wasn’t enough, after their teams’ games against the Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sam Curran and Faf du Plessis were each fined.

Due to his persistent sluggish overrate versus KKR at the Eden Gardens, Du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakh. RCB was discovered to be one over short in the daytime match. “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakh,” a statement from the IPL said.

But Sam Curran, who disobeyed the on-field umpire’s ruling during his team’s encounter against the Titans, was fined fifty percent of his match earnings for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct. According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8, Curran committed a Level 1 offense. According to an IPL announcement, “He acknowledged the offense and accepted the match referee’s sanction.”

Even if they win all of their remaining games in the tournament, RCB is practically eliminated from the competition since they can only finish with a maximum of 14 points. RCB lost to the Knight Riders by a devastating 1-run margin after scoring 221 while pursuing 223; while coming so close, they were unable to turn the tide.

However, the Kings are still in the tournament and now face the daunting task of winning all of their remaining games in order to advance. In Mullanpur, the Kings suffered their fourth straight home defeat as the Gujarat Titans amassed 143 runs in the last over.
