Like something from a web series: A gang in Delhi tosses notes during a pursuit

NEW DELHI: When police began pursuing five gang members who were running away from them in Gandhi Nagar, east Delhi, they came across a scenario that looked similar to the Farzi web series, in which guys hurled cash notes into the air to draw attention and form a barrier. In actuality, however, the scheme failed, and the police were able to apprehend them.

Daman, Praveen, his wife Sangeeta, Rohit, and Sakshi were named as the defendants.

Rajeev Singh, the complainant, informed police that on April 28, he was going to deliver Rs 4.5 lakh to a store owner in Karol Bagh, where he works as a cash carrier. Once he dropped off Rs 2.5 lakh at one place, he headed for Gandhi Nagar. At 3 pm, Singh reached the crowded Gandhi Nagar market, when an e-rickshaw driver approached him and begged to take him to Jheel Chowk. Singh saw there were already four people inside the car when he got in: two ladies and two guys.

As they traveled, Singh became more and more cautious about their actions. “He started to have doubts about their actions,” the police said. When the other passengers abruptly snatched Singh’s luggage and tossed him out of the speeding e-rickshaw, things quickly became worse. The vehicle quickly fled.

Singh informed police that he asked a passing scooter rider for help in tracking down the fleeing e-rickshaw. But instead of trying to stop or pass the automobile, he held back out of concern that the attackers may be armed. Rather, he intended to find a police officer on patrol and inform him about the occurrence.

Singh reported the event to Constable Rajkumar of the Geeta Colony police station, who thereafter informed other officials via WhatsApp and other means of contact. “Rajkumar started the pursuit on his motorcycle, bringing along a head policeman. Two more cops set up shop at the next checkpoint in order to apprehend the crooks, according to the police.

The accused resorted to the spectacular escape plan in a desperate bid to avoid being discovered. With the intention of causing mayhem and confusion among the locals and the pursuing police officers, one of the suspects unzipped the bag and dispersed twenty-five thousand rupees into the air. Simultaneously, the other accused individuals fled the e-rickshaw by jumping out and running into a neighboring field with their remaining cash.

The policeman abandoned his motorbike and began following the criminals on foot. At the same time, other police started pursuing the other defendants. All five individuals were apprehended as a result of the concerted effort, and Rs 1.75 lakh in cash was recovered.
According to Shahdara deputy commissioner of police, Surender Chaudhary, a complaint has been filed under Indian Penal Code Section 395 (dacoity).
