Team India Received A 2-Point Sanction From The ICC, Which Caused A Drop In The WTC Standings To

The Indian cricket team lost to South Africa by an innings and 32 runs, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has punished them with two points. The ICC docked India two vital points from their World Test Championship (WTC) points table standings because the team could not sustain the necessary over-rate during the Centurion Test. Not only that but the Indian team has also been penalized 10% of their match fee as part of the punishment.

According to an ICC press statement, the punishment was applied when it was decided that India was two overs short of the goal.

For each over in which their team fails to bowl in the allocated time, players will be penalized 5% of their match fee, in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses.

India was ranked No. 5 after the Test defeat, with 16 points from three Tests and a 44.44 points percentage. But India’s standings position is further weakened by the slow-over rate penalty, which drops them to No. 6 with 14 points and a 38.89 points percentage, behind Australia.

India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, acknowledged that his team was not strong enough to defeat South Africa in the first Test on Thursday.
The home team controlled the game’s flow and won by an innings and thirty-two runs, utterly bewildering India.

Rohit didn’t hold back while discussing the outcome of the match, saying, “We weren’t good enough to win. KL batted well to earn us that run after being called in to bat, but we failed to take advantage of the ball’s conditions and failed to produce with the bat today as well. We didn’t work as a team to come together if we were going to win Test matches.”

“Guys, we know what to expect because we’ve been here before, and everyone has their own plan.” Our hitters had difficulties, and we struggled to adjust. They scored a lot here, but we also need to be aware of the opposition’s advantages. This is a boundary-scoring field. We are here because we didn’t bat well in either of the two innings. Not many advantages to complete the match in three days, but KL demonstrated what we must do on this kind of field,” Rohit said.
