7 Family Burned Coal In Amroha, UP To Avoid Winter, 5 Found Dead The Next Day

Five of the seven family members who were sleeping in their home on Tuesday morning in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh tragically perished from asphyxiation. According to authorities, the event happened in Allipur Bhud village, and two additional family members were hospitalized.

The family had used a coal brazier (angithi) on Monday night to stay warm during the chilly weather, and the authorities believe that suffocation was the cause of the five children’s deaths.

Given that the individuals had burned a coal brazier in their room, the authorities speculated that oxygen deprivation may have been the primary cause of death.

The family, who numbered seven, went to bed on Monday night. When they didn’t wake up until Tuesday night, the neighbors became suspicious and broke down the door to gain in.

Sonam (19), Waris (17), Mehak (16), Zaid (15), and Mahir (12) were named as the dead. The five were pronounced deceased.

A family of four in Doddaballapura, Karnataka, passed away in their sleep earlier in September of last year from smoke inhalation from burning charcoal they had stored in their room for warmth.

Notably, burning coal (angithi) in a tight environment may generate toxic gasses like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, which can cause asphyxia and respiratory problems. Suffocation results from the production of these gases and decreased oxygen flow in a closed environment as it burns. In fact, breathing in these dangerous gasses over an extended period of time may be fatal.
