A man who raped a 6-year-old child was detained under the Pocso Act

Kanpur: Late on Sunday night, in a hamlet inside the boundaries of the Bharthana police station in the Etawah district, a 20-year-old man is accused of raping a six-year-old child.

Within 12 hours after the crime was committed, police filed a report and took the accused into custody.
The young person used a pretence to entice the girl, who had travelled from a hamlet in the Saifai region to her relative’s home in the Bharthana police area, to play in the surrounding area.

The police alleged that the accused brought her to a neighbouring field and sexually assaulted her. The police filed a case under section 376 of the IPC and the Pocso Act against the accused, named as Akhilesh Kumar, based on the allegation.
Devendra Singh, the in-charge of the Bharthana police station, initiated a large search operation to apprehend the suspects after the complaint was filed. The police station in-charge learned that the accused was standing close to Vasai Turn and preparing to flee on Monday as he and his crew were conducting searches to apprehend the accused. Based on the information, the police squad raced to the location and took him into custody.
“Against the accused, a case was filed under pertinent IPC provisions, such as 376 (rape) and the Pocso Act. The police station in-charge said, “Later, the police produced him in court and sent him to jail.”
