A True Story of Sita and Gita: The Gorakhpur Sisters, Suspected Murdered, Discovered Alive, and Married

A movie may be said to be about certain lives. The most authentic example of it is undoubtedly the story of Sita and Gita, two sisters from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Film filmmakers and producers would find it intriguing to explore the lives of Sita and Gita, who are not twins as shown in the movie, since they have an intriguing story involving two sisters who go missing in their 20s and are thought to have been killed, only to reappear alive and married with a kid each.

Sita (20) and Gita (21), who were born and raised in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, used to reside in Delhi with their brother and parents. But in January 2023, the two girls vanished, and their brother Ajay Prajapati then reported them missing.

According to NDTV, Ajay got in touch with Jaynath Maurya, a villager who was purportedly seeing one of his sisters, in an attempt to find his sisters. A fight broke out between Ajay and Jaynath while he was attempting to find out where his sister was. After the disagreement, Jaynath reportedly threatened Ajay, stating, “You’ll meet the same fate as your sisters.”

Ajay went to the police station out of concern for his sisters and decided to accuse Jaynath Maurya and his family of murder. Nevertheless, the police did not lodge a case against Jaynath’s family since they could not find any proof. Afterward, Ajay went to court in an attempt to get justice for his sisters. Ultimately, in January 2024, a case was opened at the Belghat police station in Gorakhpur per the court’s directive.

The sisters were discovered to be alive and to have fled their family to marry their loved ones by the police during their investigation into the murder case.

The sisters went to the police and provided their testimony shortly after learning about the murder case brought against Jaynath and his family in order to protect the innocent.
