A poster reading “Robert Vadra Ab Ki Bar” appears outside the Amethi Congress party headquarters

AMETHI: The husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Robert Vadra, is featured on posters that appeared outside the party’s office in the Gauriganj neighborhood of Amethi on Wednesday. The Congress party has not yet announced its candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi constituency.

The time for submitting nominations is drawing near, and this new event has raised rumors that he would run.

Robert Vadra’s posters were spotted just one day after Smriti Irani, the Union Minister and BJP candidate for Amethi, made a remark regarding Rahul Gandhi and his brother-in-law. Irani implied that Vadra had some sort of connection to the constituency when she said, “Jijaji ki nazar hai, saale sahab kya karenge?” ( “The brother-in-law has an eye, what will the brother do?” ).

“There is one thing to worry about, whether Rahul Gandhi knows something or not—his brother-in-law knows Jagdishpur,” Irani said earlier on Tuesday. People in Jagdishpur should now exercise caution.

Every hamlet, every home, and every individual in Jagdishpur has to conceal their property documents if his brother-in-law is familiar with the area.

In Amethi, Smiti Irani defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Even though Congress hasn’t formally announced its nominee for Amethi, the release of Robert Vadra posters has generated a lot of conversation in the community.

Earlier, Robert Vadra pushed for his own candidacy, saying that if he decides to run for parliament, the people of Amethi want him to serve their interests.

“They want a member of the Gandhi family to return, they will make him the person’s victory with a huge margin, they also expect that if I take my first step in politics, and think of becoming an MP, then I should represent Amethi,” he had said.

Vadra said that the Congress leadership would decide on Amethi and Rae Bareli.

“I’m not claiming that Priyanka or I would run from Rae Bareli or Amethi, respectively. The Congress party will make the choice,” he said.

According to Vadra, he teamed up with Priyanka Gandhi to support the Congress candidacy in Amethi during the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.

Prior to the next Lok Sabha elections, on April 16, the spouse of Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a suggestion on entering politics. Declaring that while he has made an effort to avoid politics, he hasn’t ruled out becoming involved in the race if the party thinks he can effect change.

“While I have avoided politics, several political parties have attempted to get me to do so and have used various means to cause me problems due to my links to the Gandhi family. Every time there is an election, I am used as a political instrument and am either made a soft or hard target,” Vadra said to ANI.
