Electrocution Caused 2 Dead and 52 Injuries During ‘Tazia’ Procession in Amroha, UP

The music system of a “tazia” came into contact with the electromagnetic field of high-tension wires on Saturday, causing 52 burn injuries and two electrocution deaths in the Didoli neighborhood of this city, according to authorities.

Seven individuals were burned in a separate event in Bareilly when a section of the “tazia” came into touch with a high tension wire, according to authorities.

According to Superintendent of Police Aditya Langeh, the Amroha incident happened in the Patei Khalsa village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Didoli police station.

The dead were named as Owais, 13, and Shanu, 35. He claimed that their remains had been transferred for post-mortem examination.

The SP said that 26 patients were released after receiving first assistance, while three to four were sent to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The remainder of the wounded have been admitted to the neighborhood hospital and will shortly be released, he said.

“The disaster happened when the high-tension wire was 35 feet above ground and the ‘tazia’ was around 25 feet tall. The catastrophe occurred when the ‘tazia’ entered the magnetic field of the power cable, according to Langeh, who spoke to PTI.

The ‘tazia’ included an iron rod and a loudspeaker, according to Amroha’s district magistrate Rajesh Kumar Tyagi. He said that while it was forbidden to build “tazias” taller than 12 feet, this one’s overall height was between 20 and 22 feet.

He noted that the post-mortem study would clarify the circumstances, but at first glance it seems that the death was caused by electrocution.

“Tazia” is a tiny-scale model of Imam Hussain’s mausoleum.

Abhishek Kumar, SHO of Baradari Police Station in Bareilly, said that seven individuals in Umaria Village suffered burn wounds after a piece of a “tazia” came into touch with a high tension electrical line.

According to a representative of the energy department, the city of Bareilly’s power was turned off as a precaution till midnight.
