Tej Pratap Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party is running for the Lok Sabha seat in Kannauj, UP

Regarding their choice of candidate for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, the Samajwadi Party has cleared up some confusion. Tej Pratap Singh Yadav was selected by the party as its nominee for the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency on Monday in its most recent list of candidates. Notably, the declaration comes exactly one week after there was increasing conjecture that Akhilesh Yadav might run from the Kannauj seat.

Furthermore, the party has declared Sanatan Pandey for the Ballia seat in addition to Tej Pratap Yadav’s candidacy.

Concerning the Kannauj Lok Sabha Seat

One of Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Sabha seats is Kannauj. There are 80 parliamentary seats in the state. There are five Assembly segments that make up the Kannauj seat: Chhibramau, Tirwa, Kannauj, Bidhuna, and Rasulabad. The constituency is open to all candidates and is not exclusive to members of Scheduled Tribes or Castes (SCs or STs). The three major political parties in the constituency are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Kannauj Winners (Candidates and Parties) for 2019 and 2014

With a margin of 12,353 votes, BJP candidate Subrat Pathak won the Kannauj seat for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. With 5,63,087 ballots cast, he had a 49.35% vote share. With 5,50,734 votes (48.27%), he beat Akhilesh Yadav’s wife and SP candidate Dimple Yadav. 11,40,496 legitimate votes were cast in total.

Dimple Yadav, an SP candidate, won the Kannauj seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections for the second consecutive time, including a bypoll. With 4,89,164 ballots cast, she had a 43.89% vote share. Subrat Pathak, a BJP candidate, finished second with 4,69,257 votes (42.10%). Pathak lost to Dimple Yadav by a total of 19,907 votes. 11,14,460 valid votes were cast in this constituency overall. Nirmal Tiwari, the BSP candidate, secured the third place with 1,27,785 votes (11.46%).
