UP Govt Requests Officials to Check ‘Negative’ News that Could Ruin Its Reputation

The government of Uttar Pradesh has ordered all district judges to contact the management of a media organization for further information if the organization publishes “negative” news that might damage the state’s reputation or includes “wrong facts” in its reporting.

“Negative” news articles will be registered on the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) and sent to the relevant divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and departmental heads for action, according to a directive issued by Yogi Adityanath’s principal secretary Sanjay Prasad on August 16.

A letter should be sent by the concerned district magistrate to the manager of the relevant media group or newspaper to clarify the situation if it is discovered that an incident has been misrepresented, incorrect facts have been stated, or negative news has been published in an effort to harm the reputation of the state government or district administration. According to the directive sent to the district magistrates and divisional commissioners, a copy would also be marked for the information department.

Prasad said that the Information Department compiles “negative news” reported in the media and daily newspapers.

The government’s reputation is damaged by these stories, thus it is imperative to look into the truth behind them right now, he added.

Such items will be recorded on the IGRS and sent to the relevant district magistrates, departmental heads, and divisional commissioners for action. Interim report will not be taken into consideration, according to Prasad.

He said, “Arrangements are being made for the DM office to upload the said letter on the IGRS portal after sending the letter of such incidents to the concerned department.”
