Chinese couple sells their car and apartment to fund a year-long “learning” tour for their child

There must have been instances of parents coercing their kids into going to school. Parents frequently place limits on their children’s ability to play outside games, watch TV, and engage in other activities as the board examinations approach, in an effort to get them to devote more time to their study. A couple in China, however, do not follow the conventional approach to schooling.

The parents sold their vehicle and apartment and took their six-year-old son on a countrywide study trip as a result of the delay in their kid’s admission to the public primary school. The camper van is used for family trips. According to Henan TV City Channel, the trip is still going strong and has now visited at least 10 regions. This family’s news story has now gone viral. The pair are from Central China’s Henan province.

According to a South China Morning Post (SCMP) article, a youngster must be six years old in order to be accepted to a government primary school in China. The youngster needed just nine days to make it to the 2023 session. Mangguo was admitted to a public primary school for a year, but Yang Qiang, his father, and his wife chose not to enroll him in a private school that would have allowed him to start. They intended to send their youngster on a year-long study trip in such a scenario. These days, they travel, educate, and spend valuable time with the youngster throughout this period. According to Yang, “sometimes going slow is going fast.” According to the father, if parents can raise their children to be the greatest, then they will also become the best.

The pair enumerated the benefits of trip learning above bookish knowledge, noting that whereas education involves studying material from books, traveling involves absorbing information from the outside world.

“Reading a book without words is traveling.” Your view will expand as you gain more knowledge and insight, according to Yang, who was cited by SCMP. To fund a one-year global tour, they have liquidated their savings as well as the proceeds from the sale of an apartment and a vehicle. The internet community is starting to warm up to these parents because of their positive outlook on education and learning. The family has said that they are enjoying themselves and learning at the same time, therefore, they are unsure of when the family vacation will conclude.
