How This UK Woman’s Baby Girl Was Almost Lost Due to the Negligence of Her Midwife

When Maisie Beth, a 22-year-old mother from Poole, Dorset, England, learned that the hospital had given her the incorrect baby, she was taken aback. She welcomed parenthood with a baby daughter called Isabelle, according to the Metro. The 22-year-old woman discovered the infant she was carrying was a male when she went to change her daughter’s diaper.

Once she realized this, she raced into the maternity office, demanding to know the whereabouts of her child, Belle. “God knows what would have happened, I could have breastfed this baby or the mom could have woken up to an empty crib,” she said to the site.

In September 2023, Maisie gave birth to a girl who required monitoring every two hours. This is because Belle has to have a tube inserted into her body and undergo phototherapy. She was assigned to a nursery as a result. Light waves are used in phototherapy to treat certain skin conditions.

When Maisie returned to her room after seeing Belle one evening, she claimed to have discovered the midwife and Belle in the office. The Poole lady was initially perplexed since Belle required phototherapy and was supposed to be kept in her cot. But she turned and walked back to her room with her kid. She saw something shocking when it was time to put the baby back in the phototherapy cot. Maisie realized that the infant in the cot was not her own, but rather belonged to someone else. The midwife had handed away the incorrect baby and was not taking care of Belle at the office.

Maisie described how she hurried to the workplace in a hurry to locate her daughter. The lady looked just like the mother of the small boy, the midwife stated, and she had mistaken the two while delivering the infant. The 22-year-old lady claims that her first reaction was that the kid had been taken, and as a result, she was quite terrified. After four years of infertility, she finally became pregnant, and the possibility of losing her kid horrified her. When Maisie saw her again, she felt relieved.
