On TikTok, nurse Anna recently shared some incredible stories about the people she met and the births she helped with.
A variety of frank and sometimes embarrassing remarks have been made to Anna by expecting fathers throughout her time in delivery rooms. She openedly described events that confused and startled her in an uncensored video that she posted on her TikTok account.
Among the many hurtful things a parent said, “Does it really hurt THAT bad?” These remarks show a lack of empathy and understanding and are indifferent to the immense anguish that women go through during childbirth. That was just the start of the inconsideration. Another nasty dad said, “Her vagina’s never going to look the same again,” in reference to the physical changes his husband will go through.
Still, the worst thing Anna can recall occurring was when a father asked nonchalantly if they could arrange a paternity test when a mother was pushing very hard. This statement remained open-ended and disrespectful during a critical and emotionally charged moment, regardless of whether it was a thoughtless attempt at humor or a genuine question.
A few parents attempted to relate to the situation, as if they were attempting to lighten the mood. A few questioned, worried about the duration of the labor to come and their hunger, “When do you think she’ll have the baby?” This is because I’m so hungry that I have to go grab some food. The comments combined a trivialized point of view with the gravity of the situation, which was understandable to some extent.
Returning to the topic of vaginal delivery, a startled father asked whether there might be an additional stitch, a reference to the despicable and improper “husband stitch.” This proposal infuriated and upset a lot of people, some of whom even said they would never get married.
The revelation of these remarks caused a wide range of emotions. Some viewers did not waste time in decrying the act, stating they would immediately visit an attorney or reassess their relationships were faced with such callousness and insensitivity during such a key life event.
The horrifying and repulsive things that Anna revealed were spoken during labor, and they underscore how critical it is that the delivery room be a place of comprehension, empathy, and compassion.
