Twitter is perplexed about the survival of the middle class in Bengaluru after an Ola driver cancels a ride to charge more

One Mumbai-based CEO’s statement that he paid only Rs. 100 for a quick car journey garnered attention in a world where tweets can go viral in the blink of an eye. But when the dust had cleared on that odd tale, a new storyline had surfaced, one that raised worrisome questions about Bengaluru’s auto rickshaw drivers’ outrageous pricing practices. Another Mumbai-based person recently made headlines after disclosing a similar incident with an Ola driver in Bengaluru. Ingeniously, the driver canceled the trip and demanded more fees to get there. The tweet describing this incidence gained a lot of attention, and the author expressed his worry about the problems that the middle-class population faces in the face of such exploitative activities.

An employee of Razorpay by the name of Prashant Yadav revealed his experience on Twitter: Arrived at the Banglore City station; selected an Ola car; received a call from the auto walla next to him; cancelled the car; and was told, “Sir, 100 extra, do as you see in Ola fir jaunga.” Following that, he said, “I wonder how middle class survive in the city as they consider everyone wealthy techie.”

The tweet received a lot of attention right once, and many people crowded the comment box with their opinions. One expressed sympathy by stating, “Welcome to BLR! You’ll become accustomed to the refusals (for a taxi, a car, a place to live, etc.). Others advised reporting similar occurrences to Ola and canceling the reservation, but Prashant said he had already done so and had no success.

People in the conversations also provided guidance on how to prevent similar situations. They often do this near stations, so if at all feasible, take the metro and make your reservations there, said one customer. They just want to con you into believing you’re new. It gets far less traffic on a daily basis than many other cities.

“Make a bus pass. Go somewhere,” suggested another.

Without a question, it’s a thrilling journey unlike any other among the hustle and bustle of Bengaluru!
