Video games are played more often by young people than movies are

It seems that video games are more popular with Millennials and Gen Z than movies, as internet platforms continue to compete for the attention of young people. These two generations spend more time playing video games on consoles than they do viewing movies, according to a US research.

The poll of Generation Z and Millennials found that 95% of them and 78% of them play video games weekly or more often. Therefore, among young people, gaming continues to be quite common. Some people even prefer to play video games on consoles than watch movies. A sample of around 1,500 Americans between the ages of 13 and 39 who were polled in November 2022 said that they spend seven hours per week playing video games on consoles as opposed to six hours per week viewing movies. Movies don’t appear to have captured the attention of young people, but Generations Y and Z continue to love television, spending eight hours each week on average.

The results show that Generation Z is more interested in playing computer video games than their Millennial parents, according to a thorough examination of the data. With six hours allotted to movies and five hours to computer video games, millennials are more inclined to watch movies than play video games. Gen Z, however, spends the same amount of time on each of these activities—six hours—so this is not the case for them. It should be noted that the situation is different when it comes to playing video games on consoles, which is more common among young people, scoring an average of seven hours a week for both Gen Z and Millennials.

Young people still like watching television, despite the fact that it is often incorporated into other activities. In fact, according to YPulse’s TV and Entertainment survey, 71% of young people watch TV while doing other things like playing online games.

Online content providers are well aware of how appealing video games are to young people. Netflix has created a ton of games on its platform in an effort to keep stealing customers online time. For its part, TikTok caters to users’ desire for gaming with the help of its interactive filters and live broadcasts, which, like Twitch, let internet users watch game players in real-time and participate by proxy.
