Why This Bride Wanted Wedding Gifts That Were Worth More Than Rs. 4,000

Family members get together and make all the essential preparations for a wedding. As they begin their new life together, the bride and groom also receive presents from their loved ones. Most couples are grateful for gifts, regardless of cost, whether they are in the form of cash, kitchenware, or any other item for the house. However, a woman who insisted that her guests spend at least $50 (Rs 4,129) on their presents was ridiculed online. The bride said that receiving a less expensive present after spending so much money on the wedding would be a “slap in the face” for her and her family.

The bride reportedly said that she thinks it is offensive when guests arrive at occasions without any gifts. She said that she asked it because she planned an open bar and food for her wedding, which would cost $150 (Rs 12,338) per person, and because she thought setting a minimum spend requirement for presents was appropriate.

The lady first posted this on Facebook before moving on to Reddit. She enquired as to whether it was impolite to state on invites that presents of $50 or more are required. her said that both her and her fiancé’s families include a sizable number of individuals who like showing up empty-handed to occasions when they can afford to provide a gift.

Receiving presents is one of their love languages, so she said, “I feel it’s appropriate for them to at least come to the wedding with a gift worth $50, that’s affordable.” The bride allegedly added another post in which she explained that the main focus of the wedding was love rather than receiving presents. But she said, “I believe that’s a slap in the face to my union and the bond between me and them if plates cost $150 on top of having an open bar and a person brings nothing simply because they felt like it.

She also questioned why it is often okay to show up empty-handed when someone may not be able to spend $50. She also spoke about how one would feel if everyone attended one’s birthday celebration without bringing a present but still had a great time. She received harsh criticism from Reddit users for expecting presents with price tags attached; some even referred to her as selfish in the comment sections.
