Andhra Pradesh: The Indian Election Commission will address the JSP’s presence

The Indian Election Commission has notified the court that it will rule on Jana Sena’s appeal opposing the distribution of the JSP emblem, the Glass Tumbler, to independents and other party candidates in races in which the party is not participating. Although it is not contesting, the JSP has filed a petition in the High Court questioning Glass Tumbler’s membership in the Free Symbol list.

T Shivshankar Rao, the general secretary of the JSP, submitted a petition asking the ECI to hold onto the Glass Symbol for the party. The JSP is running in coalition with a national and regional party, according to senior attorney YV Raviprasad. It notified the court that the JSP is running for two MP and twenty-one Assembly seats.

The attorney said that Glass Tumbler was allocated to JSP by the ECI in January’s proceedings. Given that the symbol was on the list of free symbols, independents would be given access to it. Avinash Desai, the attorney for ECI, said that a decision would be made within a day after receiving a representation. The case was scheduled for hearing before the court on Wednesday.
