Rahul Gandhi will continue his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” with a rally in Bihar

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, will continue his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ on Thursday by holding a public gathering in the Aurangabad district of Bihar, which is located approximately 150 kilometers away from the state capital.

Senior party official and MLC Prem Chandra Mishra said that Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the AICC, is also expected to speak at the event.

“It is expected that Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi would fly to Gaya and take a chopper to Aurangabad. Gandhi would thereafter continue the Yatra, Mishra said over the phone to PTI.

A fortnight ago, after his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra had traversed four districts in the Seemanchal area, Gandhi was last saw in Bihar.

Mishra predicts that Gandhi would meet with farmers in the Tekari Vidhan Sabha area—which is in the Gaya district but is a part of the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency—after the rally.

Gandhi is going to spend the night at Sasaram. He will go to the Kaimur district on Friday, from whence we will send him off into the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh, Mishra said.

The Congress relies on Aurangabad and Sasaram as parliamentary seats where it still has some sway, while being a non-player in Bihar.

When the party nominated Nikhil Kumar in 2004, it had its last victory in Aurangabad. Kumar went on to become the governor of Nagaland and Kerala.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram held the Sasaram seat for the party in the 1960s and 1970s. His daughter Meira Kumar gained it again for the party in 2004 and kept it for five more years, during which time she also became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Mishra was also questioned over rumors that Tejashwi Yadav, the youthful leader of the RJD who was summoned by the ED last month and was unable to attend Gandhi’s rally in Purnea, might show up in Aurangabad.

“We have invited all of our allies in Bihar to the rally,” the Congress leader said. Tejashwi Yadav, however, has specific commitments in Patna, where his party’s nominees are expected to submit their papers for the Rajya Sabha elections.”
