PATNA: Around two in the morning on Tuesday, an SUV carrying a family of three people—including a child—slammed into a parked truck covered in sand on State Highway-90 close to Khaira Azam village, which is within the jurisdiction of Baikunthpur police station in the Gopalganj district. The collision resulted in seven injuries and three fatalities.

The family was returning from a “tilak” ritual when the tragedy happened.

According to Rajiv Ranjan Singh, SHO of the Baikunthpur police station, the truck driver reported the collision to the authorities around 2:30 in the morning. “The bride’s uncle, grandpa, and cousin were among the three individuals who passed away instantly. For a postmortem, their remains were transferred to Sadar Hospital. The majority of the wounded are children receiving care,” he said.

The victims were identified as Goriya Kothi, Chhapra residents Reyansh Kumar, age six, Suraj Ram, age 65, and Shankar Ram, age thirty.

“Siswa village in Chhapra was to be the site of the marriage ceremony for the daughter of Buchia village resident Ramakant Ram. Ten members of the bride’s family had visited the groom’s home in Chhapra on Monday night and presented tilak. Their SUV struck a parked truck as they were heading back,” Singh said.
