CCI is seeking suggestions for an in-depth analysis of AI. Every little detail

It has been stated by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) that research on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on market competition would be commissioned. The competition watchdog has called for submissions for this research that consider a more comprehensive understanding of the possible advantages and disadvantages of AI on competition.
The “Artificial Intelligence and Competition” research will examine a number of AI-related topics.

This effort aims to highlight the increasing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in diverse industries and its possible impact on competitive dynamics. This includes the capacity to influence customer decisions by offering tailored services, suggestions, and prices.
What organizations CCI has requested for this research?
The news agency PTI said that the CCI has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting applications from organizations or agencies that meet the requirements and are interested in carrying out this important study. The paper outlined the goal of the research, which was to investigate the possible competitive hazards as well as the benefits of using AI. The commission emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) has the capacity to both improve market efficiency and, on the other hand, enable anti-competitive behavior.

June 3 is the date when proposals must be submitted. On June 28, there will be a technical presentation phase that takes place prior to the final financial bid deadline.
The research will not just look at how AI influences market behavior, but it will also evaluate the wider effects of mergers and acquisitions involving companies that prioritize AI. It aims to pinpoint the main benefits or drawbacks for businesses that use AI technology or don’t use them.
What this investigation will concentrate on
Examining whether AI may be utilized to carry out anti-competitive strategies and looking at the development of possibly anti-competitive methods made possible by AI technology will be two of the study’s main areas of emphasis. Additionally, the study will look at topics like algorithmic biases and how they affect market competitiveness, as well as the dynamics of collusion caused by algorithms that learn on their own.
The study’s assessment of AI’s effects on market entrance and exit barriers, concentration, innovation incentives, and overall market power are among its other noteworthy components. The CCI intends to use the results to determine enforcement and lobbying priorities regarding the commercial use of AI.
Along with reviewing the current and developing legal frameworks regulating AI in India and other significant countries, the research will speak with a range of stakeholders to obtain a thorough knowledge of the field.
CCI’s remarks about the research
CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur emphasized in an interview with PTI that while AI and machine learning have the ability to significantly increase efficiency and innovate, they also present risks because of possible anti-competitive behavior and market concentration.
