Government is developing a plan of action to increase agricultural exports

According to a senior official on Tuesday, the government is creating action plans for up to 20 agricultural items, including as bananas, mangoes, potatoes, and baby corn, with the goal of increasing exports of these goods.

Rajesh Agarwal, the Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, said that the action for each of these items should be available in the next three to four months.

He said that all parties involved, including the states, would debate the action plan in order to determine the best course of action. Due to their competitiveness in the global market and superior manufacturing quality, these commodities have enormous potential to boost exports even more.

“We’ve found twenty goods. India’s current export share in the world market is small. For each of these goods, we are developing a thorough action plan,” Agarwal said. India now contributes around 2.5% of world exports; in the next few years, the goal is to raise that percentage to roughly 4-5%.
