How to set up iPhone 12 for 15W Qi2 wireless charging

Apple’s most recent iPhone 15 series featured the 15W Qi2 wireless charging technology. The functionality was later extended to previous devices, such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series, by the firm with the release of the iOS 17.2 update. The IT behemoth with headquarters in Cupertino has now released an update that will enable 15W Qi2 wireless charging on a greater number of iPhones.

According to a report published by MacWorld, Apple has included Qi2 wireless charging capability for iPhone 12 models in the most recent iOS 17.4 update. It’s crucial to remember that the manufacturer of iPhones hasn’t released any formal word on the matter.

According to the article, users may activate Qi2 compatibility for their older iPhone 12 devices by putting the most recent iOS 17.4 update on them.

The iPhone 12 model, according to the source, displayed the 15W-only charging animation and matched the charging speed of fully Apple-certified MagSafe chargers when it was clamped into Qi2 charges. The iOS 17.4 release notes, however, don’t mention Qi2 compatibility for the iPhone 12.
The article also said that during testing, an Apple MagSafe charger was able to recharge a fully charged iPhone 12 Pro Max to 30% in 38 minutes and to 50% in 70 minutes. An iPhone 12 Pro Max was charged to 30% and 50% with the Anker Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charger in 33 and 64 minutes, respectively.
The study also mentions that MagSafe and Qi2 charging speeds were closer in previous tests conducted with an iPhone 12 (which has a smaller battery than the 12 Pro Max) (around 20 minutes to 30 percent and 45-50 to 50 percent).

It is important to remember that Belkin, Apple’s official charging accessory partner, lists the iPhone 12 as compatible with its Qi2 chargers in its compatibility notes. According to the business, “Qui2 compatible devices, such as the iPhone 15, 15 Pro, 15 Plus, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14, 14 Pro, 14 Plus, 14 Pro Max, iPhone 12/Pro/Pro Max/Mini, and iPhone 13/Pro/Pro Max/Mini, can be fast charged thanks to universal compatibility.”

Conversely, Anker excluded the previous iPhone models from its list of Qi2-compatible devices for its 3-in-1 Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charging Station, but it did mention the iPhone 12 series phones as compatible with its MagGo Power Bank.
Anker clarifies in a blog post that although the iPhone 12 Pro is compatible with Qi wireless charging, it is not natively compatible with the more recent Qi2 wireless charging standard. Although MagSafe, which provides a comparable alignment and efficiency boost over conventional Qi charging, is a feature of the iPhone 12 Pro, it was created prior to the Qi2 standard’s finalisation and introduction. Therefore, rather than using Qi2, the iPhone 12 Pro’s wireless charging capabilities are based on the existing Qi standard and the exclusive MagSafe technology.
