Meet the couple that lost their first business, turned it around, enlisted Ratan Tata’s help, and are today worth over Rs 200000000000

One of the most well-known Indian billionaires in the world is Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata, who has a sizable fan base on social media, is often praised for his insight, generosity, and astute financial acumen

Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, participated in a variety of businesses in addition to leading his organization to new heights. For every company entrepreneur, getting Ratan Tata on board is a significant accomplishment. Ratan Tata supported a fortunate pair of IIT graduates who had failed in their first business endeavor.

The pair now controls a firm worth over Rs 200000000000 that is well-known across India. The two individuals in question are Varun Khaitan and Abhiraj Bhal. They are the ones that started Urban Company, which was formerly called UrbanClap. While pursuing their degrees at IIT Kanpur, Abhiraj Bhal and Varun Khaitan got to know one another. After graduating, they each pursued distinct professional paths, yet their relationship persisted outside of college.

After graduating, Varun worked for the massive semiconductor company Qualcomm, while Abhiraj chose to attend the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad to get an MBA. A few months later, he joined his buddy Varun from IIT at the Boston Consulting Group. One thing united them both: a love of enterprise. In actuality, Varun and Abhiraj created the on-the-go streaming service Cinemabox before they were successful with their present business endeavor. But the first endeavor was short-lived—just six months.

The pair of IIT graduates eventually met Raghav Chandra, who had also had a failed business endeavor. The three of them founded Urban Clap after seeing an opening in the home services industry. The business was able to leave its imprint on the sector after experiencing early success. The firm received an undisclosed investment from billionaire Ratan Tata after operating for about a year. With more than 50 lakh clients and a network of 30,000 service professionals, the firm is presently valued at over Rs 20000 crore.
