Cast Announced for Australian Wartime Survival Film “The Guns of Muschu”

Before filming on the epic wartime survival story “The Guns of Muschu” begins in the first quarter of 2025, a strong cast has already been gathered.

The script for the movie, “Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan,” was adapted by Tom Broadhurst and Jack Brislee from the nonfiction book “The Guns of Muschu,” authored by Don Dennis. The account, which recounts the high death count of Operation Copper, a WWII operation in which Australian and New Zealand forces were dispatched into the jungles of Papua New Guinea, vividly brings to life a crucial aspect of Australian military history with gritty accuracy.

The mission’s goals were to locate two naval cannons that were guarding a port on the island, inspect the Japanese fortifications on Muschu Island, and apprehend a Japanese commander for questioning. As part of the operation, eight commandos were landed; just one made it out alive.
“The Guns of Muschu” centers on Mick Dennis, the mission’s lone survivor, and chronicles his terrifying journey of perseverance through unspeakable horror and overwhelming odds.
Dennis, the main character in the production, will be played by Ben Hall (“Warnie,” “Devil’s Playground,” “Better Man”), under the direction of Matthew Holmes (“The Legend of Ben Hall,” “The Cost”). Aussie actors Matt Day (“Sweet Country”), Callan McAuliffe (“The Walking Dead”), Jordan Fraser-Trumble (“The Legend of Ben Hall”), Gerald Lepkowski (“The Death of Stalin”), Maximillian Johnson (“High Ground”), Clayton Watson (“The Matrix Reloaded”), Damon Hunter (“The Cost”), and Arthur Angel (“Red Dog”) have also already been cast in the movie.

Production is being handled by Rally Point Media, RLC Motion Picture Entertainment, and Two Tone Pictures. This is the continuation of the partnership that produced the thriller “The Cost” and the film “The Legend of Ben Hall” in 2017.

In order to reach theaters in time for Anzac Day [April 25, 2026], an Australian theatrical distributor has set a delivery date of the full film for the first quarter of 2026. As of now, there is no associated local distributor or worldwide sales agent.

“The Guns of Muschu” will honor the Anzacs’ amazing gallantry, according to Holmes. The tale of Mick Dennis and the troops of Operation Copper serves as a tribute to the Australian soldiers’ unwavering spirit throughout their time in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It also makes for great film that will wow viewers everywhere.
