Maidaan by Ajay Devgn Faces Accusations of Plagiarism: Creators File a High Court Case Opting of Stay in Karnataka

Maidaan Controversy: Karnataka has put a stop to Ajay Devgn’s sports drama Maidaan, which was launched today. A Mysuru court has halted the movie’s release due to a scriptwriter named Anil Kumar’s accusation of plagiarism. He claims that the narrative of the film, which centres around football coach Syed Abdul Rahim (Devgn), is based on a screenplay he penned many years ago.

According to News18, the court ruling was given on April 8th, after Kumar’s complaint. In a statement made public Monday, the filmmakers assert that they were not aware of the action in advance and were unable to defend themselves in court. In other regions of India, Maidaan is still being screened in spite of the stay order. To learn more, continue reading.

Maidaan Makers Appeal to Karnataka High Court
Zed Studios and Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP challenge the ruling in a statement in response to the court order, arguing they were not given the opportunity to present their case in court.

It released a message under the name Bayview Projects LLP, which said, “Dear everybody, The document of the District Judge’s order prohibiting the film’s distribution was recently served to us. We would like to state right away that the aforementioned decision issued by the District Judge is an ex-parte order, meaning that we were not given a chance to be heard. “We were not served any notice prior to the filing of the said suit for hearing of the matter,” the Maidaan creators said. Furthermore, the aforementioned order was issued after the movie’s release; therefore, any rule that restricts the movie’s distribution is technically null and void.

The producers have appealed to the Karnataka High Court, disputing the latest ruling. To guarantee that the movie’s release can go on without interruption, they will ask for an immediate stay of the injunction. The producers are optimistic about the movie’s release date, even though they are following all recommended legal options. However, we are appealing the ruling to the Honble High Court of Karnataka,” the statement said. In order to get immediate relief to halt the implementation of the aforementioned ruling, we will present the case to the Honourable High Court. Please be assured that the film’s release may proceed; we are following all legal advice without affecting the aforementioned. As soon as we bring the case before the Hon’ble High Court, we will keep you informed of any further developments. Sincerely, (sic).

Anil Kumar asserts that Maidaan follows his script exactly.
“In 2010, I started writing the story and in 2018, I posted a poster about this, and I got in contact with ad director Sukhdas Suryavanshi through my LinkedIn post,” said Anil Kumar, the author, in a since-deleted LinkedIn post. He requested that I grab the script and contacted me from Bombay (Mumbai). I own the whole history of our discussion. He threatened to force me to see Aamir Khan, but there were obstacles in the way. I told him the tale and told the Screen Writers Association about it. I just learned that Maidaan, a movie, is set for release. Since my narrative is identical to yours, I was taken aback. I realised it was my narrative when I glanced at the teaser and their words. This movie has been created by twisting the basic narrative. The narrative is called Paadakanduka (sic).”

Concerning Maidaan
Alongside Ajay Devgn, the film contains an ensemble cast that includes Rudranil Ghosh, Priyamani, and Gajraj Rao. It is scheduled to open in theatres and face off against Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar’s action-packed film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan for box office glory. Amit Ravindernath Sharma is the director of the film, which Boney Kapoor and Zed Studios co-produced.
