Tom Hiddleston Explains Why He Didn’t Consider Loki to Be A Villain

The 2011 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Thor, which also starred Tom Hiddleston in his debut Loki role in a Marvel movie, will be 13 years old in May. Tom Hiddleston has returned to the character in two Disney+ series and seven movies since 2011. Even though Loki is an anti-hero, he has a sizable following among superhero enthusiasts. Given that season two of Loki was completed in November of last year, Tom Hiddleston recently talked with Deadline on his role as the “God of Mischief” and where he sees himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hiddleston said, “I’ve absolutely loved playing Loki; it’s been 15 years, and it is the most magnificent and emotional roller coaster for the twists and turns.” He also spoke on how he has not had any feeling of repetition despite portraying the character for more than a decade. He is so sophisticated and has such a wide range that I never feel like I’m playing the same thing.

Declaring, “There is no doubt that playing Loki has changed the course of my entire life,” Hiddleston thanked God for landing the part.

Even though Loki is typically portrayed as a cunning villain, he has a lot of character development in season 2 of the Disney+ series. Loki learns the importance of sacrificing oneself for the sake of others in season 2. Hiddleston makes the case that he believes Loki to be more than simply a villain by highlighting his complexities. “I always saw him from the very first film as a broken soul with a shattered heart who felt like he didn’t belong, all that grief hardens into a grievance,” the 43-year-old stated, reflecting on Loki’s character development.

Hiddleston has already discussed the many facets of Loki’s personality. He made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 12 recently, during which he said, “I know Loki made some interesting decisions that could add up to a picture of him looking like a villain, and once upon a time, he was making some misguided decisions.” That was a rough day at work, you know—trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to come together to defeat him. I hope that fourteen years later, he is making a few decisions that are a little more kind, brave, and giving.

Regarding returning to the role of Loki, Hiddleston has sidestepped the topic in previous interviews. During his interviews with Deadline and Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hiddleston tactfully revealed that he is unsure about the character’s future.
