Indigestion, high blood pressure: The physical health effects of stress

Stress is becoming a prevalent element for everyone in the digital era. Chronic stress may have physical implications in addition to emotional depletion.

Long-term stress causes the body to react by tightening muscles, elevating the heart rate, and shallowing respiration. In addition, it may cause blood pressure to rise, the immune system to deteriorate, headaches, stomach problems, and sleep disruptions.

Although stress is a natural part of life, Dr. Danish Ahmed, a psychiatrist at Max Super Speciality Hospital, said that it may be difficult to perform well under pressure.

Stress may be beneficial to resilience and performance. We refer to this aspect of stress as “eustress.” “The positive form of anxiety,” Dr. Danish Ahmed said to IndiaToday.Within.

However, it’s referred to as “distress” when it negatively affects our ability to maintain our bodily and mental well-being.

Dr. Ahmed said, “Much of the time, it’s not the situation that matters, but rather how we interpret and manage it.”

The mind and body are connected.

Negative mental stress may have an adverse effect on the body. It may cause symptoms such as a racing pulse, chills, clammy extremities, irritable bowel syndrome, strange coughing or burping sounds, dysphagia, dyspnea, variations in blood pressure and blood sugar, and headaches.

According to Dr. Ahmed, there are three primary areas in which stress may manifest in the body:

Physical symptoms include dyspnea, headaches, tense muscles, exhaustion, and constipation.
Emotional: Easily agitated, easily enraged, feeling tense, and irritable
Conduct: Idleness, delay, incompetence, and excessive self-control

“Keep in mind that although you can’t always escape stress, you can attempt to learn how to handle and live with it. Stress is a part of life. Try to decide how you want to react to it. Dr. Ahmed emphasized that stress management is all about taking control of your ideas, feelings, way of life, and approach to problem-solving.
