Antonio Guterres, the UN leader, demands a stop to the Middle East’s cycle of revenge

According to his spokesperson, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has demanded an end to “the dangerous cycle of retaliation in the Middle East.”

The spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement on Friday, after reports that Israel had struck Iranian sites, that it was high time to break the hazardous cycle of retribution in the Middle East, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Dujarric said, “The Secretary-General denounces any act of reprisal and calls on the international community to cooperate in order to stop any further development that could lead to disastrous consequences for the entire region and beyond.”

Tehran has downplayed Friday’s strike. Last week, Tehran unleashed massive retaliation attacks on Israel in response to Israel hitting its embassy in Syria.
