Chinese ship is allowed to dock, according to Maldives

A few days after informing India that it would not be renewing its hydrographic surveying contract for its seas, the Maldives allowed the Chinese ship Xiang Yang Hong 3 to arrive in Male for a port visit.

According to the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese government has requested the required authorizations to conduct a port visit in order to rotate troops and restock.

“While in Maldivian waters, the vessel will not be conducting any research,” Moosa Zameer, the foreign minister of the Maldives, said.

According to the foreign ministry of the Maldives, the country has always welcomed friendly boats and would continue to welcome both military and civilian ships calling in port for non-combative activities.

Everything is political: The Maldives’ disdain for India
The foreign ministry of the Maldives stated in a statement that “such port calls not only enhance bilateral ties between the Maldives and its partner countries, but also demonstrate the centuries-old tradition of the Maldivian people welcoming vessels from friendly countries.” They also pledged to uphold applicable international maritime law and best practices in all such cases.

India, which is also dealing with difficulties from the archipelago, has taken notice of this matter after setting a deadline of March 15th for the repatriation of 88 Indian military personnel. Recall that these individuals are connected to two Dornier planes and one helicopter that are being used for relief and humanitarian efforts.

Following the death of a teenage boy in the Maldives a few days ago, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu requested his administration to review emergency transfer procedures since there had been a delay in approving the youngster’s evacuation by Indian aviation services.
