Israel-Hamas War: US Disseminates National Reports on Human Rights Policies, Showcasing Israeli Violations of Human Rights in Gaza

After decades of tense ties, Israel and Palestine’s dispute escalated into the full-fledged Israel Hamas War on October 6, 2023, when the terrorist group launched 5000 rockets into Israel from Gaza, killing hundreds of civilians. Since the assault, two nations have been engaged in a six-month-long conflict, and neither is willing to give up. Thousands of people have died in the conflict on both sides, there have been many instances of sexual assault, torture, and hostage-taking, and both nations’ citizens’ fundamental human rights have been violated. Now that the US has published its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, it has become clear how Israel has violated human rights in Gaza and how both nations share equal blame for the violations of human rights throughout the conflict.

“Human Rights Concerns Are Deeply Troubling Despite The Israel-Hamas War.”
The US State Department, which has expressed concerns about human rights violations in Gaza, emphasized Israel in its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, as was previously noted. The confrontation between Israel and Hamas in Gaza “continues to raise deeply troubling concerns for human rights,” said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in response to the human rights issues. The ensuing war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas has, according to the study, had a “significant negative impact” on Israel’s human rights situation.

American Reports Are “Credible” About Israeli Human Rights Violations In Gaza
Additionally, the US Secretary of State said that the US condemns the terrorist assaults carried out by Hamas on October 7 and urged Israel to limit injury to civilians in its response. The 103-page section on Israel includes “credible reports” of over a dozen different categories of human rights violations, such as extrajudicial executions, torture, arbitrary detention, sexual violence or punishment related to conflicts, and the punishment of family members for alleged transgressions by a relative. It also included reliable accounts of “unlawful killings” carried out by the Israeli authorities and Hamas.

In his statements, Blinken clarified that Israel must adhere to international law and “take every feasible precaution to protect civilians,” as the US has “made clear.” He stressed that the department is still “urgently” bringing up issues over the killings of civilians in Gaza during the conflict. According to the paper, the US has also “repeatedly” voiced worries about civilian displacement, “unprecedented” journalist killings, and the availability of humanitarian supplies in Gaza.

The release of their remaining prisoners was the topic of a recent meeting of the Israeli War Cabinet, which included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Many nations have been attempting to bring the warring parties to a ceasefire, but Israel has made it plain that they are not finished and that they will deal “additional and painful blows” as well as increase “military and political pressure” on the terrorist group in order to ensure the release of Israel’s hostages. The conflict is far from over.
