Israel-Iran War: The US will impose more sanctions on Iran’s drone and missile programs

Washington: The US will soon impose new sanctions on Iran’s missile and drone programs, as well as new penalties against organizations that support Iran’s Defense Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. This comes days after Iran launched a series of missiles at Israel.

Sullivan issued a statement stating, “President Biden is coordinating with allies and partners, including the G7, and with bipartisan leaders in Congress, on a comprehensive response, following Iran’s unprecedented air attack against Israel.”

He said, “The United States will impose new sanctions against Iran in the coming days, targeting its missile and drone programs as well as new sanctions against entities supporting Iran’s Defense Ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).”

According to Jake Sullivan, the US anticipates penalties on Iran from its partners and friends as well. He said that in order to further undermine Iran’s missile and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities, the US is still working to fortify and broaden the effective integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems across the Middle East.

“We anticipate that our partners and allies will soon be following with their own sanctions,” Sullivan said. Furthermore, in order to further undermine Iran’s missile and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities, we are working with the Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command to enhance and broaden the effective integration of air and missile defense and early warning systems throughout the Middle East.

He pointed out that in addition to the additional sanctions, there would be a “steady drumbeat of pressure” to control and weaken Iran’s military might and effectiveness as well as to address all of its harmful actions. He reminded everyone that the United States has sanctioned over 600 people and organizations linked to terrorism in the last three years, on top of penalties pertaining to drones and missiles.

According to Jake Sullivan, “the United States has sanctioned over 600 individuals and entities connected to terrorism, terrorist financing and other forms of illicit trade, horrific human rights abuses, and support for proxy terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Kataib Hezbollah, over the last three years in addition to missile and drone-related sanctions.” There will be more pressure.
