Proclaims It “Will Build Overwhelming Military Power”
According to the North Korean official agency KCNA, Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said on Wednesday that the nation would persist in developing an overwhelming and formidable military force to safeguard its sovereignty and maintain peace in the area.
The U.S. military has been conducting a series of exercises in the area this year, including live-fire drills with what Kim called the “South Korean puppet military gangsters,” which, according to Kim, are having a serious impact on regional stability.
“We will continue to build overwhelming and the most powerful military power to safeguard our sovereignty, security and regional peace,” she told KCNA.
In response to a joint commitment by the presidents of the United States and South Korea to increase military preparedness in the face of North Korea’s military threats, the two armies have recently undertaken a series of exercises with increased scope and intensity.
The military of South Korea said that this month they conducted aerial exercises lasting two weeks involving over 100 military aircraft.

The North Korean government has claimed that recent American military drills are a prelude to a nuclear attack. Pentagon and Seoul both claim the exercises are defensive in character and conducted on a regular basis to keep forces prepared.
