Shortly after pleading guilty, Donald Trump returns to X; the first post since 2021 is his mugshot

Following his arrest in Georgia on Thursday, former US President Donald Trump published his police photo on X, the previous Twitter, marking his first activity there since January 2021. On January 8, 2021, two days after the assault on the U.S. Capitol, he was suspended from Twitter for inciting violence.

After Elon Musk bought Twitter and conducted a vote on the topic, his account was restored last November.

On Thursday afternoon, soon after Trump was arrested in Atlanta on more than a dozen felony counts as part of a criminal investigation into the 2020 Georgia presidential race, his mug image was made public.

Two people acquainted with the conversations informed CNN that the former US President’s staff had discussed the former president’s mug photo before he took it at the Fulton County prison. According to the source, he purposely opted not to grin because he wanted to seem “defiant” in the picture. The mugshot of Trump, prisoner number P01135809, showed him scowling at the camera.

Trump’s participation in the picture was yet another remarkable event for him since he wasn’t required to do so in any of his prior three criminal cases.

Even as he launches a second run for the White House in 2019, 77-year-old Trump has already broken new ground by becoming the first former American president to be charged with a crime. Numerous surveys reveal that the four lawsuits brought against him have only improved his image among Republican supporters.

In the fight for the Republican nomination to take against Democratic President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election, he has a significant polling advantage.
