Two hospitalized international students at Gujarat University were beaten for doing namaz in the dorm

Police stated on Sunday that students from various foreign nations were reportedly attacked by a gang of people in the Gujarat University hostel in Ahmedabad for performing namaz inside the structure.

Following the incident on Saturday night, two students—one from Tajikistan and the other from Sri Lanka—were admitted to the hospital, they added.

Police Commissioner GS Malik said that nine teams of security officers were constituted to investigate the event and that a formal complaint was filed against twenty to twenty-five individuals.

Nearly two dozen individuals broke into the government-run Gujarat University dorm at approximately 10.50 p.m. on Saturday and voiced their disapproval of students from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and other nations performing namaz in the space where they were staying, according to Malik.

According to him, the Gujarat University is home to over 300 foreign students, many of them are from Africa, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Sri Lanka.

According to the source, over 75 percent of the foreign students reside in the university’s A-block dormitory, which is where the event took place.

A group of twenty to twenty-five persons visited the hostel grounds and asked the foreign students to perform namaz at a mosque instead of there. They attacked them and threw stones while they quarreled over the matter, according to Malik.

Ten minutes after 10.51 p.m., a call was sent to the control center, and the police arrived. When a police vehicle arrived, he claimed, something was done.

According to him, two students—one from Tajikistan and the other from Sri Lanka—have been admitted to the hospital.

Twenty to twenty-five persons had a FIR filed against them; Malik stated the situation was under control and they would be detained shortly.

According to him, nine teams have been assembled to look into the case: five from local police under DCP and four from the criminal section.

The official said that everyone engaged in the event would be placed under custody and that the joint commissioner of police will oversee the case (crime).
