Manoj Sharma, an IPS officer who served as the inspiration for the movie 12th Fail, was promoted to Inspector General

Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer, was promoted from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to Inspector General (IG) in the Maharashtra Police. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s “12th Fail” is based on Sharma’s life. The IPS officer expressed his “deep appreciation to all” on the microblogging platform X, which was previously known as Twitter, for their support.

“The Government of India’s directive has led the process that began with ASP to become IG today. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way,” he said on social media.

“12th Fail,” which was based on Anurag Pathak’s best-selling novel, stars Palak Lalwani and Vikrant Massey. The film explored the lives of IRS official Shraddha Joshi and IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. He attempted the UPSC civil service test four times, but the first three times he failed. On his fourth try, he scored an All India Rank (AIR) of 121 and passed the test. Sharma was earlier assigned as an Additional Commissioner in the Mumbai Police Department before becoming an IPS officer.

Sharma, a citizen of Madhya Pradesh’s Morena area, was raised in extreme poverty. In classes nine and ten, he received a third division. With the exception of Hindi, he failed every subject in the class 12 board exams. In class twelve, he fell in love with Shraddha Joshi. Having failed class 12, he was unable to pop the question to Joshi. Sharma was terrified, but after much consideration, he asked Joshi to marry him, and to his surprise, she said yes. He continued, “If you say yes, then I will turn the world around,” as he made the proposal to the girl.

After that, Manoj Sharma began preparing for the UPSC CSE. Sharma had a difficult time getting into the IPS. In order to get some money, he drove fast and sometimes spent the night sleeping on the sidewalk. In addition, he worked at a Delhi library, which helped him greatly prepare for the UPSC.
