Alappuzha, Kerala reports an epidemic of bird flu

Two locations in this area have reported cases of avian flu, authorities said on Thursday.

Ducks raised in wards 1 and 3 of Edathva Grama Panchayat and Cheruthana Grama Panchayat, respectively, were found to have contracted the bird flu, according to the report.

After samples of the ducks exhibiting bird flu symptoms were submitted to a lab in Bhopal for analysis, the illness was officially identified.

An official from the district administration verified that the samples tested positive for H5N1, the avian influenza virus.

In this case, the Government of India’s response plan states that domestic birds within a kilometer of the epicenter would be killed and destroyed (culled) in a meeting presided over by the District Collector.

According to the official, the Animal Welfare Department will promptly assemble a Rapid Action Force and finish all necessary preparations.

The district administration said that because there is no chance of the illness spreading to people, there is no reason to get too alarmed.
