Amritsar: Due to farmers’ unrest, many trains were postponed or diverted

Due to a rail roko protest by farmers near the Shambu border on Wednesday, numerous trains had to be postponed or diverted, which caused trouble for local rail passengers.

The trains from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri and Amritsar to Jaynagar have been postponed, according to information made public by the railways. Additionally, trains traveling between Amritsar and Kathiar, Pathankot and Old Delhi, Amritsar and Mumbai, Amritsar and Tata Nagar, Amritsar and Saharsa, Jammu Tawi and Sealdah, Purea Court and Amritsar, Kolkata and Amritsar, Nanded and Amritsar, Indore and New Delhi, and Amritsar were rerouted by the railroads.

Train schedules between Old Delhi and Amritsar, Haridawar and Amritsar, and Amritsar and Jaynagar were also controlled by the railroads. The farmer leaders said they had enough time to petition the Haryana government to free the three farmer leaders who had been detained, therefore, they were compelled to block the train tracks.

“We had originally planned to close train lines on April 9, but we moved it to April 10 after receiving confirmation from the Haryana government that all three farmer leaders would be released. We later again delayed the rail-track protest after the Haryana government promised to free the three leaders till April 16. We have begun our protest along the train tracks today, April 17,” a farmer leader said.

According to Sarwan Singh Pandher, general secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee, farmers have chosen to question representatives of other political parties in addition to the BJP in order to find out where they stand on matters pertaining to farmers.

Every hamlet and town in the area has a display board with questions for the leaders of the BJP and other political parties, according to the KMSC.
