As a leopard murders a 7-year-old girl, fear permeates the Budgam region

Following the death of a seven-year-old child by a leopard on Friday night, fear has spread over a large portion of Budgam. Her corpse was discovered in nearby bushes by the villagers.

Following the deadly assault in the Budgam district of central Kashmir’s Khansahib region, the Wildlife Department on Friday issued an order to kill the “man-eater” leopard at first sight. But this is the third instance in the region. Due to a lack of personnel and fruitless attempts to catch leopards, the Wildlife Department’s efforts to safeguard youngsters have fallen short.

On Friday night, Toiba Mushtaq, the seven-year-old daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad, was mauled by a leopard on her home’s lawn. Locals later found her dead in some adjacent bushes.

A shadow of doom has settled over the Khansahib region after two young girls were killed and a little boy was wounded in only seventeen days due to a string of leopard assaults.

The third occurrence in the vicinity is this one. A wild animal killed a little girl in one incident that happened in Samsan village. A youngster was hurt in another incident. The incident on Friday was the third, according to Sowkat Ahmad, a local.

Locals are upset about what they see as the district administration’s lack of responsiveness. The residents reported that the police had said that they lacked authorization to shoot the leopards.

Residents were warned by Budgam Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo to remain indoors, particularly during risky times, and to watch out for their kids. In order to guarantee the prompt apprehension of the elusive predator, Labroo stressed the need of cooperation between law enforcement and the general population.

“The region is home to a large number of wandering leopards. They moved in the direction of the village after the Friday assault. Leopards were driven away because of the courage of the nearby people, who showed up in great numbers, a local stated.
