BJP: HC comments reveal Delhi government’s educational scheme

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Virendra Sachdeva, the president of the Delhi BJP, said that the recent remarks made by the Delhi High Court have exposed the government’s lofty promises of improvements to the education system.

“Over the last few weeks, the high court has issued stringent directives on the decline of schools managed by both the Delhi government and the municipal corporation, exposing the flimsy claims of the Arvind Kejriwal govt’s world-class education system,” Sachdeva said.

He was alluding to the court’s dissatisfaction with the lack of study materials and textbooks provided to pupils at MCD-run schools.

The MCD commissioner was given a two-working-day deadline by the court on Tuesday to make a decision about the allocation of funds for the same. The commissioner claimed to have visited the schools and partially blamed the lack of a standing committee for the delay in book deliveries. This led to the court’s ruling.
“Previously, in addition to expressing concern over the lack of education and playing field facilities in schools, the court criticized the Delhi government for running schools in tin sheds and tents with broken desks and dilapidated classrooms,” he added.

Sachdeva said it was unfortunate that the Delhi government and MCD had not yet begun to upgrade their schools.

“BJP must address the dire situation of schools in its governed states, where essential infrastructure is lacking,” said Reena Gupta, a spokesman for the AAP. It has to take the implications for Manipur’s student population’s future very seriously. Kejriwal was the one who invited youngsters from Manipur to enroll in government schools in Delhi.

“The BJP’s rule over MCD caused chaos and darkness in the civic schools for fifteen years.” It will take time to get out of such a disorganized situation. The Kejriwal government is dedicated to transforming MCD schools into models of excellence, just like it did with Delhi’s government schools, he said.
