Celebrating World Environment Day in 2023 with a focus on Mission LiFE

Today was observed as World Environment Day around the nation, with Mission LiFE serving as the government’s main priority.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the idea of LiFE, or Lifestyle for Environment, during the World Leaders’ Summit in Glasgow at COP26 when he issued a clarion plea to revive a worldwide effort to embrace environment-friendly habits and practises.

75 distinct LiFE activities have been identified as part of Mission LiFE, which spans 7 themes: saving water, energy, reducing trash, reducing e-waste, reducing single-use plastics, adopting sustainable food systems, and adopting healthy lifestyles.

This year’s World Environment Day has the subject “Solutions to Plastic Pollution,” which is related to a number of LiFE initiatives and one of the seven Mission LiFE themes, “Saying No to Single-use Plastics.”

On World Environment Day, the PM delivered a video message to a crowd. Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister for the Environment, spoke to a crowd while simultaneously seeing a LiFE digital installation. He remembered the PM’s worldwide plea for plastic solutions on World Environment Day in 2018 while speaking at the event.

In response to this urgent plea, India has decreed a 2022 ban on the production, import, stockpiling, distribution, sale, and use of certain single-use plastic products. The decision and its execution have received praise not just on the local front but also on the international front. He discussed Indian Oil’s ‘Unbottled’ concept.

Yadav discussed Mission LiFE and how it is mentioned in a number of international publications, including the Paris Agreement’s Preamble, COP 27’s Cover Decision, the IPCC’s Third Working Group Report, and a new report by the International Energy Agency. He continued by saying that the International Big Cat Alliance had just been established in addition to India’s three other international efforts, the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the Leadership Group for Industry Transition.

The three compendiums, Thinking for Our Planet, Mindful Living, and Thought Leadership for LIFE, were also issued by Yadav.
