Create social reform centers in mosques: Mirwaiz

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, urged mosques to become effective hubs for social awareness and change on Wednesday in order to address the ongoing socioeconomic issues that society faces.

He called on mosque imams and Islamic scholars to acknowledge their roles in bringing about social change.

“In their sermons during the holy month of Ramadan, they ought to emphasize personal and societal reform,” he said after the inauguration of the recently built Muhaajir-e-Millat Masjid Shareef in Reshanhar, located in the Nawa Kadal neighborhood of the city.

Mosques should be actively used as the ideal places for value-based rearing of children and youth in light of Islamic teachings and for efforts towards social transformation, according to the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference.

“The Muslims in the community get to know each other’s well-being through the performance of the five daily prayers, which leads to the formation of a caring and united society,” the speaker said.
