Delhi Metro and RRTS will square off in New Ashok Nagar

NEW DELHI: By early 2025, travelers at New Ashok Nagar will be able to see the intersection of the Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat RRTS trains. At Ghaziabad, the two trains will also intersect. The Namo Bharat and Delhi Metro trains also pass through Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan, but passengers won’t be able to see the trains crossing each other here because at Sarai Kale Khan the metro station is elevated and at Anand Vihar the RRTS station is subterranean.

The trial run in the Delhi leg may begin as early as 2025, although the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS route is expected to go into service in June 2025. Four stations—Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, and Jangpura—are located along the 14-kilometer line in Delhi.
To provide seamless connection, the RRTS stations in the Delhi segment are being built next to metro stations at Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, and New Ashok Nagar. Building new infrastructure next to old infrastructure was a difficult undertaking. According to a representative of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is in charge of carrying out the RRTS project, it was only made feasible because both train companies wanted their customers to be able to travel between modes of transportation without difficulty.
The Anand Vihar RRTS station would have dimensions of 35 meters by 297 meters. Three elevators (one for platform access and two for connecting to the Delhi Metro), five escalators (three for platform access and two for connecting to the metro), and two entry/exit gates will be constructed for the convenience of passengers. There will be two entrances: one leading to the Anand Vihar Railway Station and the other towards Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg.
“The Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station, which is situated near the Delhi Metro station, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and Vir Haqiqat Rai ISBT, is 215 meters long, 50 meters wide, and 15 meters high, and its central feature is multi-modal integration.” A 280-meter bridge with six travelers would be built by the NCRTC to link the RRTS station with the Nizamuddin railway station, the official said.
The metro station, which is around 100 meters away, will be connected to the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station by a footbridge that is 90 meters long and 6 meters wide.
At these stations, two more pedestrian bridges are being built to improve communication with the surrounding communities. A 42-meter-long and 6.5-meter-wide bridge at New Ashok Nagar will allow traffic to reach Chilla village and the Mayur Vihar Extension. For the convenience of those living in the New Ashok Nagar regions, a 45-meter-long and 8-meter-wide bridge is planned to be built on the other side of the same station, next to the Prachin Shiv Mandir.
