ECI eventually permits the live broadcast of the heavenly wedding in Bhadrachalam

In a letter released on Tuesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) approved the live telecast of Sita Rama Kalyanam at the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam, provided that all MCC regulations are adhered to and no political advantage is gained from the event.

Recall that in her letter on Monday, Endowments Minister Konda Surekha asked the ECI to provide authorization for the live broadcast of the heavenly wedding, which has been going on for the last 40 years without interruption. She also said in the letter that the request had been turned down earlier on April 4 “for some reason or another.”

The minister also pleaded with the ECI to take the proposal under consideration, noting that even ardent viewers outside fervently watch live broadcasts.

It is important to remember that the BJP also requested in a submission filed with the ECI that the religious program be permitted to air live.
