Following CAA notice, the government establishes panels for citizenship

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) regulations were announced a day earlier, and on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs opened a special website where individuals could submit their citizenship applications.

A representative added, “People who qualify under CAA-2019 can apply for citizenship on this portal: indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in.” To make apps easier, a mobile app will also be released shortly.

The CAA was put into effect by the Center on Monday, four years after it was enacted by Parliament. It allows illegal non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014, to apply for citizenship more quickly.

Following the regulations’ release, the Modi administration will begin awarding Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from the three nations, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians.

The ministry has also established committees at the district level to check papers and an empowered body to make decisions about citizenship.
