Gurugram: 9 people were arrested after a loan app gang was uncovered

The cyber police in Gurugram said that they had dismantled a group of hackers who had been extorting money from victims after offering quick loans via an internet application.

Nine gang members, including three of the app company’s founders and a manager, have been taken into custody by the authorities. The accused reportedly altered the photos of those who didn’t pay back their debts and threatened to share them on social media in order to get money from them. From their possession, the authorities retrieved eight phones, four CPUs, and a SIM card box.

The police claim that on April 3, a lady complained to the West Cyber police station about having obtained a Rs 3,000 loan using the Finsara web app. People from the lending app reportedly harassed her by sharing offensive images and postings on her Facebook and WhatsApp after she failed to pay back the debt on time. If she didn’t pay the money, they threatened to distribute these pictures to her relatives.

At the West Cybercrime police station, a case was opened. Nine people were taken into custody by a squad headed by Inspector Naveen Kumar late yesterday night in the Udyog Vihar neighborhood.

Gaurav Wadhwa from Sirsa, Rahul Jain from Dwarka (Delhi), Rohan Palha from Sector 54 in Gurugram, Rohit Kumar from Darbhanga (Bihar), Brijender Singh from UP, Pawan Kumar from Alwar (Rajasthan), Avnish Giri from Azamgarh (UP), Shishu Kumar from Dhanbad district (Jharkhand), and Vivek, a native of Chapra district (Bihar), were among the accused who had been arrested. Finsara’s owners were Rahul, Gaurav, and Rohan. The team commanders were Pawan Kumar and Brijendra Singh, the recovery agents were Avnish Giri, Shishu Kumar, and Ritesh, and the manager was Rohit Kumar.

“Team leaders got Rs 25,000 per month and recovery agents received Rs 14,000 per month,” ACP cyber spokesperson Priyanshu Dewan said.
