Gurugram: In the Behrampur region, GMDA will install 100 MLD CETP

A common effluent treatment plant (CETP) is scheduled to be built in Sector 36 by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to handle industrial waste water discharged by textile manufacturers in the Behrampur region.

They have engaged a commercial business to draft a comprehensive project report that includes cost estimates for implementing the CETP. By the end of May, the report should be ready. According to GMDA officials, it would be brought before a high-power committee led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for consideration and approval. And following that, the GMDA will call for tenders for construction work.

It should be mentioned that the Behrampur neighborhood of Gurugram has had an industrial sector for a number of years. More than 200 enterprises call this region home, and thousands of workers and employees are employed there. In this region, there are a few textile factories that manufacture clothing. These enterprises also have dying units and discharge highly polluted effluents into the major sewer channels that are connected to the STPs. These drains then run into the drains, which ultimately empty into the Yamuna.

Environmentalists contend that industrial effluents cannot be effectively treated by standard STPs.

The Haryana government was recently requested by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to take proactive measures to stop the flow of dirty water into drains that eventually empty into the Yamuna. Despite the installation of personal treatment facilities and the change to zero liquid discharge procedures by many sectors, the issue of effluents spilling into drains persists.

Vishal Bansal, chief engineer of GMDA, said that a 100 MLD CETP installation was being considered for these sectors. The project’s main goal is to help make Yamuna pollution-free. It is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2025.
