Home assistance for a Zirakpur councillor is being detained for extortion

Due to charges of extortion and criminal intimidation, the police detained a councillor’s domestic assistant.

Suraj Kumar, a 23-year-old who works at the residence of Zirakpur Municipal Council ward No. 22 councillor Yadvinder Kumar Sharma—the brother of NK Sharma, the SAD contender for the Patiala Lok Sabha seat—was named as the suspect.

The domestic helper, a Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, resident, allegedly requested Rs 25 lakh from Yadvinder’s wife via voicemail on April 23 in the afternoon, according to the police complaint. Suraj threatened to broadcast the recordings of her kids on social media in an offensive manner if he wasn’t paid.

“Suraj was employed around half a year ago, but a police report was filed when it was discovered that he had allegedly participated in a theft at the Lohgarh residence. He was later fired from his position, according to Yadvinder.

Jaskanwal Singh Shekhon, Zirakpur SHO, said, “The suspect has been arrested from Gonda.”
